03/18/2011 Feedback and more changes...

Good morning team Melcher!

Mary W. should be by to visit next week!

We have been doing a great job with the resources we have, but have recently been challenged to do more with our slower mornings and ability to practice the unified service desk model. More on that in a little bit...

So far we have had several group visits this month. Three visits from the kids at Casa Pheonix with approximately 12 young adults and one guardian each visit. We also had a 15 person visit (adults) from the ESL class at HCC and their instructor.

One outreach was performed at the Pecan Park Civic Association with 15 adults in attendance.

Next week I will be visiting HCC to pass along some information regarding our programming and chatting a bit with their librarians regarding materials selection and possible needs that they are unable to fulfill.

Morning outreaches will be increased in the coming weeks and months with distributions of our weekly events and monthly flyers as they arrive. We have another workshop for how to start a business on April 15 at 5PM and want to be sure it is well attended. Please spread the word as we have done so when promoting other events. I'm sure this will be another standing room only crowd!

There will also be a little league ball starting up in the near future for the Dixie Little League at Ingrando Park. I am hoping to get in contact with some of the organizers to set up a table near the concession stand to perform outreach and get the parents to come down to see us. More info as this outreach materializes.

THE BIG NEWS!!!
-We will be taking a closer step towards the unified service desk in terms of scheduling. While we have been shelving, sorting, discarding, paging, discharging bookdrops, writing reports, ordering items, and checking in items as a free-flowing collective we will be taking a more structured approach in the very very very near future (03/21/2011). With Brandon coming on board relatively soon it is important that we utilize our staffing as efficient a way as we can. What does that mean in the short term? More active checking of the daily schedule on the blog for hourly duties and verification of their completion. Opportunties for morning outreaches should also increase which will allow us more facetime with the community. While I am sure that Park Place's closure will affect us, it will surely prove to be generous to our circulation and programming numbers. Let's get ourselves ready for the challenge!

I spoke with Suzanne and she mentioned that while the upgrade is scheduled for 60 days it may take a total of 90 days to complete.  Holds from Park Place are being routed to Mancuso as it is anticipated that more people migrate towards that area of town. We are unsure of how to handle all the items that will be returned for Park Place. For now I welcome you all to share ideas with each other and me, a more concrete approach to Park Place materials will be settled next week.

Melcher's floor was fixed again by the contractors that came last time. Yay!

Stephen Chamberlain will be back on Monday to assess the concrete/screws/gate and see if the gate is able to stay put with the larger bolts.

BIG KUDOS to ... Mike and Carolyn for really stepping to address the 3M gate fix & repair. You guys performed excellently. I truly appreciate having such capable staff to supervise. You both reacted quickly and documented the progress with much detail. Thank you for keeping me notified of happenings via phone, text, and email.

Phew! That was a lot of information. Thank you for reading.
:)
