Manager's Meeting - Notes

Hola Team Melcher! It is with great sadness that we begin to say temporary goodbyes to Brandon Glover and Maria Ortiz as Park Place begins to recall its staff. Thank you for all of the hard work and efforts you two have demonstrated here at Melcher... you are always welcome to return. :)

Today's meeting covered many aspects of the HPL's present situation and possible future. I'll try to be as brief but detailed as possible in the bullet points compiled from my notes.

• Proposed Location Groupings: Melcher, Smith, & Young (Melcher will be paired with Stanaker once it reopens). MEL-SMI: 5.6 miles, YOU-SMI: 2.5 miles, MEL-YOU: 3.2 miles
• While no decision has been made by city council MVC thinks that there is a 95% change Saturdays will be involved.
• 7 layoffs were rescinded from the LSS classification. The employees will be returning as Sr Library Service Clerks.
• NL Priorities for FY 2012 are: Unified Service & Dual Management.
• HPL Priorities are 4 during the fiscal year 2012.
• Support for Student Success
• HPL customers will have access to resources, services and programs that assist them with homework assignments and help them prepare to succeed in school.
• Literacy Advancement
• HPL will promote the joy of reading in order to enrich lives, expand horizons and foster imagination. HPL will provide customers with the support they need to initiate and develop their reading, financial, and health literacy skills in order to meet their personal goals and make decisions that affect their lives.
• Workforce Development
• HPL customers will have access to education, training and resources dedicated to providing them with the skills and knowledge to acquire employment, succeed in the workplace, and explore small business and entrepreneurial opportunities. 
• Technology Access and Instruction
• HPL customers will have access to computers and the resources available through the Internet. HPL customers will have access to free training classes on a wide range of technology, software, and related topics.
• BTOP Grant - Will be bringing computers to a library nearest you, in addition to part-time tech trainers to assist with computer questions.
• Fred & Pat are willing to travel for trainings needed in neighborhood libraries. (If we need refresher classes please let me know.)
• NL admin is going to be more aggressive when trying to get credit for trainings, especially those that are in-house. (For now fill out the HR form for credit request if a formal class was not taken.)
• There is still uncertainty about furloughs continuing into FY '12. For now it looks as though we are safe.
• Sundays... - MVC is trying to have Central staff Sundays if they are brought back during the school year. NL admin is aware of staffing difficulties that will arise with many branches also proposed to open on Saturdays.
• Webcams are on order so more virtual meetings can be held.
• Monthly meetings will be mandatory in the near future... (After the re-org is initiated.)
